Short falls and long winters. Warm temperatures during day and cold temperatures during night. Long days in summer and endless nights in winter. Patagonian weather is full of colors and contrasts. The Andean Patagonia is characterized by abundant rains in spring and summer, and heavy winter snow storms, reaching up to 2,000 mm per year and generating a very humid atmosphere. Going to the Atlantic, the Patagonia becomes dryer and rainfall average drops significantly to only 200 mm per year. Wind is the main actor during summer days and plays a secondary role during winter. With this outlook, the best time to visit the area is between December and March, unless you are a snow lover that inevitably travel in winter.
It must be noted that Torres del Paine National Park has a microclimate in the Laguna Azul area, where temperatures increase significantly during summer time reaching up to 30 ºC. At the same time, weather at the mountain range heights is icy and humid. |
