The Sara Braun palace, residence of Sara Braun, founder of the Sociedad Explotadora de Tierra del Fuego, was built between 1895 and 1899. Nowadays is one of the most interesting buildings of the city that houses the José Noriega hotel and the Club de la Unión. Today, the Braun Menéndez palace owned by Mauricio Braun, Sara's brother, houses the Magallanes Regional Museum, another well worth visit. |

And talking about museums, the Regional Salesiano Maggiorino Borgatello, is one of the most relevant historical pieces within the region. Established with material collected by Salesian missionaries and scientists, with a complete display that tell the story of native tehuelches, yaganes, alacalufes and onas, among others. It also has an important collection of the fauna and mineralogy of the area, among other several contributions.
The city's cemetery is also an attractive place to visit. Its avenues are surrounded by cypresses and magnificent mausoleums. One of its highlights are the tombs where the remains of the last onas rest.
It must be noted that since it is located in one of the ports of entry to the country, Punta Arenas is a Duty Free Zone and therefore, it counts on a shopping center that sells tax free household appliances, electronic and photographic devices, and perfumes to tourists.
